Being a part of a musical ensemble can be an enriching pat of your musical journey. Making music with others can encourage you to strive for your best, and inspire you along the way. There are several groups you can explore, whether you’re interested in learning a stringed instrument or if you already play an instrument.

The Wabash Valley Youth Symphony is a local ensemble that meets in West Lafayette. They offer orchestral experience for intermediate- advanced string, woodwind, brass, and percussion players. They rehearse once a week on Tuesday evenings, and perform three concerts a year.
“The mission of the Wabash Valley Youth Symphony is to provide a high-quality musical experience for qualified young musicians and to give them an opportunity to perform. This experience will be enriching and beneficial to the community at large.”

“The purpose of the Bluegrass Jammers is to promote bluegrass and traditional music and pass it on to the next generations. Lafayette Bluegrass Jammers was started in 1996 by Lafayette resident, Phil Gehringer. The jams were held once a month, and there were occasions when a bluegrass show was held featuring local bands.”
The Lafayette Bluegrass Jammers are a group of musicians who get together for bluegrass jam sessions. Traditionally, these have been held at the Tippecanoe Arts Foundation building, but have branched out in recent years. They strive to meet twice a month on Saturdays.

The Dulcimer Gathering states that they are “a loosely organized group of mountain and hammered dulcimer players who have been playing together since 1985. We gather together to enjoy the music, learn new songs and share our music with others. Players of all levels are welcome to join us.” The group includes dulcimers, guitarists, fiddlers, and more.
